Summer Self-Care Essentials

Finally, that time of year when mostly everyone seems to be on break or out traveling. I say "mostly" because here in Costa Rica the rainy/winter season is just setting in. However, our weather almost always has the feel of "Summer" so the drill is the same all year long. And there are several things to know and do to maintain the best health and mood during these seasons in a tropical environment.
Stay hydrated! I know we have heard this everywhere but hey, that means it is actually true and important. One of the ways in which I have motivated myself to drink more water is to acquire an aesthetic-looking bottle of water! You don't need to spend tons of money on say, a Stanley cup (if you can go for it sis) but you can find very affordable bottles and cups everywhere!
Second, make sure your skin is prepared too! Even though lizards are cute that skin does not look great on us humans. Sunburns are a real thing and I have had my share of them enough to warn you. Fortunately protecting yourself against this is actually pretty easy, if only just a little expensive. Use sunblock (SPF). Simple huh? Once I heard you should apply it every 30 minutes, and I have adhered to this routine and it does actually work. In my case, my skin color darkens but it does not burn red. If you have a lighter skin color you might want to throw in some bronzer to help you catch a tan as well! (Do not forget chapstick as well!)
Moving on we have clothes! Unfortunately, comfy hoodies won't do this time of the year, but that does not mean we are out of fun stuff to wear, on the contrary! Shorts are my favorite piece of clothing, they are fresh and everything goes with them: converse, vans, oversized shirts, crop tops, etc. Can't forget swimsuits of course. My personal preference is a one-piece as I love swimming freely and not worrying about anything coming off...but I hear there are some good brands that carry comfortable two-piece swimsuits as well. Personal goal: wear a two-piece this summer LOL.
Finally, let me throw out a few trip ideas so you don't spend all your time in your room with Netflix (honestly, not a bad plan either). The first option that comes to mind is the beach of course, take surfing lessons, go scuba diving, go on a Ferry ride, etc. You can also rent a bicycle and go riding with your friends, find a nice park for a picnic, and play some board games outside. Hike up a trail, take fun pictures, read in the woods, and run for an iced coffee later. I know it feels like I am just rambling but these are things I would die to do right now.
Hope this inspires you to enjoy this beautiful, warm, relaxation time we call SUMMER.
Let's get planning a fun time!
God loves you,
Dear Ordinary Caro
