About time I began with these huh? Well, that just made me sound as if I were a pro-traveler or have recently been to more than 10 countries (which I have not). But if you think about it, you only really just have to travel once to express to someone else everything they need to know or at least what to expect from it. And it is easier for others to understand you since it is not coming from a professional using big words and confusing explanations. So this will be just the beginning of a series where I can tell you in detail the places I have been to, how to travel airports, my favorite and least favorite ones, "light packing" guides, and much more I will learn along the way too.
So to begin with, I wanted to quickly share what traveling is and why you MUST JUMP INTO DOING IT:
what is traveling:
In dramatic terms, it means paying and planning to change your life forever. Either by places you see, people you meet, or even new foods you taste.
In normal terms, I guess it means that you do a lot of planning and paying for a big vacation to a place you have never been to. But however, you'd like to define it, it will be the most "worth it" investment (in my humble opinion) you could think of ever making.
The feeling of being trapped in an airport is both exhilarating and terrifying, but that is the preciousness of living on the edge. And do not even get me started on what it feels like to fly on an airplane.
As fun as all of this sounds, make sure to take into account that the business of traveling (let it be by airplane, train, car/bus ride,) is pretty draining and tiring, the adrenaline keeps you going for a while but once you are on your way back home, you will definitely be dead tired. And before it even begins you have to do a lot of planning if you want the whole deal to go smoothly. And included in this planning is budgeting as well and you do want to be careful with it and be organized with savings etc. Also, packing can be a little overwhelming at first too.
During the actual traveling, you want to look out for the culture shocks, and food differences, and make sure you do the appropriate things to keep your stomach in one piece (etc).
I do not mean to frighten or discourage you from taking the step off the cliff and wander off. But I do not want you to step into it uninformed, personally, I would want to have all the information possible before I did anything.
"why" you must seriously consider traveling:
My very first time on a plane was towards Tegucigalpa, Honduras. I was 16 years old and left behind my parents having a silent panic attack at my leaving. That's right, I pretty much traveled by myself, we had a group of friends but non was really responsible for me except me. I was on a very tight budget too, but hey, I survived. So you can for sure do it too. I totally get the apprehension of doing something new for the first time is daunting, the refusal of family and friends to let you go makes you even more doubtful, and the excuses that "it is too dangerous", or "do not go by yourself" etc make you rethink any dreams you had of seeing new things. And I am not saying you should not pay attention, but be wise about the advice, heed it all, take notes, brace yourself, and in the end: ignore it all and do it. Again, do be careful, but do not make nervousness your excuse for not doing something: ever.
Well, I think those are the first initial thoughts I wanted to share with you guys, but for sure keep an eye out for the upcoming topics which you might find either interesting or helpful.
God loves you,
Dear Ordinary Caro
